Here's a great little discovery I just made. I know you've probably never heard of this group, but trust me, it's your loss. Not the Joneses is a rock group with influences of pop and a hint of alternative. The music is incredibly fun, with some of the best hooks I've heard in a while accompanied by smart lyrics. The album starts with "Ashes to Ashes," which speaks about being realistic and authentic in our salvation, and not just "Sunday Christians." Other album highlights include "God is Dead" (about Nitchze's famous quote including those same words), "Anastasia," "Cry for the Cross," and "Draggin' Man." It's simply amazing how they can consistently come up with a pleasing melody and then marry it to insightful lyrics. Russell Bergum, Mark Chaffee, Vince Consolo, and Dug Schoenbeck make up the band. It's only a matter of time before this group gains the widespread exposure they deserve. Not the Joneses has made its mark on Christian music, and we're all the better for the experience. These 12 songs are real gems -- it's just a shame that more people don't know about them. Yet. This one's not easy to come by (in fact, you'll likely only find it on sale on NtJ's website), but it's well worth the effort.
