The opening cut "Ashes to Ashes" is a powerful song that takes a realistic look at life. It paraliel's a carnival setting and challenges listeners to think about Christ's presence in the midst of the daily struggles, successes and even the ordinary circumstances we face. As the lyrics state, "Big top, carnival lights, caliope sound / one big circus of life, send in the clowns / we're running around, foolin' around / somebody needs to shut this place down / if we could ride that ride just one more time / then maybe we'd find we'd be just fine / with a push and a whine, and a big fat lie / maybe we'll make it to the front of the line / we lie to ourselves, it's such a good time / but please don't tell, just wish us well." |
![]() Not the Joneses demonstrate quality writing, both lyrically and musically. Songs including "Wait for Love," "For the Cross" and "j-lite" maintain a current sound without compromising the message. They don't sugarcoat the real issues, but they face them head-on. Not the Joneses debut release is strong and presents a positive Chiristian message throughout. Impressive. I can't wait to see the material performed live. It's fresh and exciting.
